At Warlord Combat Academy, Winged Saber Historical Fencing brings 19th-century European martial traditions back to life—one cut, parry, and lunge at a time. Led by HEMA veteran Russ Mitchell, Winged Saber offers a unique opportunity to train in authentic military saber fencing and long-axe techniques based on a living lineage preserved through generations.
What Is Winged Saber?
Rooted in historical sources and preserved through direct transmission, Winged Saber focuses on Hungarian Hussar saber. Students train in effective cutting, precise footwork, and strategic fencing techniques used by cavalry and infantry alike.
Classes include both solo drills and controlled sparring, with a strong emphasis on body mechanics, timing, and tactical thinking.

We’ll teach you from the ground up, with a focus on clean movement and control before competition or sparring.
